Hi, my name is Greg Karch. I own and operate WalleyeX Guide Service located in Oshkosh on
the great Lake Winnebago System. Not only am I Licensed Guide, I’m a licensed United
States Coast Guard Captain to ensure safety for all clients. In 2005 I became a member of the
National Professional Anglers Association. My membership number is 138. I have fished the Lake
Winnebago System for over 20 years and specialize in walleye, white bass and perch fishing.
Besides guiding, I host Youth Fishing Clinics to teach youths about the environment, different
techniques for fishing and boat safety. I also fish tournaments. In 2007 I finished in 8th place in the
FLW Walleye League event on Green Bay. I weighed just short of 24 pounds on three fish. See
picture in the photo gallery. I have been in articles in the newspaper and appeared many times in
the Wisconsin Sportman magazine.
This year I appeared many times in the Wisconsin Sportsman magazine where I spook about the
fishery, presentations and locations to fish. I also appeared in the Sunday newspaper a couple of
times. One article was Lake Winnebago Walleye and the other was “Yellow Fever” (Perch lovers
are in heaven on Lake Winnebago).
When guiding I start out the open water fishing season by hitting the Wolf River on the Lake
Winnebago System or Fox River in Depere for the spring walleye run. The walleye run begins in
the middle of March. Walleye fishing in the upper lakes of the Lake Winnebago System gets hot
after the walleye return from the spawning run. In April and May excellent white bass fishing follows,
this is a great time to get a kids started in fishing. Walleye fishing continues to be good from
spring-time and into the summer months. Lake Winnebago has some of the best perch fishing in
the state, starting in middle July through September.
This past year I have started to spend more time ice fishing the Lake Winnebago system. I have
had some successful trips. See the Photo Gallery for some of the pictures.
